David Beckham to Spurs?

Could Redknapp and the board pull of another bargin signing, even if it is only a short term loan deal? Is it worth it for a few months?

Redknapp told the BBC "David fancies it. He would like to come and play here," said Redknapp. "He's a fantastic lad and role model in the way he conducts himself and plays.

"He'd be a great influence on the younger players," said Redknapp. "I remember when I was at Portsmouth and bought Teddy Sheringham for a season and used to tell the young lads to watch Teddy practice and train."

"I'm sure he can still do a great job at the top level, otherwise I wouldn't bother," said the Tottenham manager on Friday.

"He isn't going to come here and get big money - we aren't massive payers at this club. But he wants to come over here to the freezing cold and play football".

Beckham, if he was to join Spurs, would be returning to the club where he first started out training before joining Manchester United where his career really lifted off.

How likely is to happen? Who knows. Beckham has recieved offers in the past to come back to England but turned them down as a move back would be too close to home with being a Manchester United fan. Also, going against the Beckham to Spurs move is that Beckham had claimed that a loan move to Europe was unlikely in this off-season as he would prefer to focus on his fitness, having only returned to action in September after six months out with an Achilles tendon injury.

As the phrase goes ... Watch this space.
